Fantasy Football Stud Performance: Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Josh Freeman

Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRE

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Josh Freeman had himself a breakout game against the New Orleans Saints today. I tried to warn the fantasy world about Freeman’s potential before today’s game in my Fantasy Football: Week 7 Players You Must Start piece, so I hope you gave it a read. Freeman almost outscored Drew Brees today that’s how well he played, so let’s take a look at the damage he did.

Freeman attempted 42 passes, completing 24 of them for 420 yards and 3 touchdowns with zero turnovers. The Buccaneers did lose the game 35-28, as a last second touchdown, which would have gave Josh four touchdowns on the day, was called back because of a Tampa penalty. It was a wild game with very poor defense, but you were a big winner if you started Freeman, WR Vincent Jackson, or RB Doug Martin. Jackson ran wild against the swiss cheese defense of the Saints, catching seven balls for 216 receiving yards, which also a Buccaneers record for yards in a single game.

If you needed a bye week fill in or a spot start, and you went with Freeman today, congratulations on the successful day. Josh might not do this every week, but he certainly played like a fantasy stud today. That’s two weeks in a row Freeman has played fantastic as a matter of fact, throwing for three touchdowns in two consecutive games, and only turning the ball over once. He’s starting to make some noise in the fantasy world, even if he just played two of the lousiest defenses in the NFL, we must take notice.
