Fantasy Football Stud Performance: Matthew Stafford
The Detroit Lions beat the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, 28-24. Matthew Stafford put on a show in Detroit, accounting for all 4 touchdowns. He threw 3 touchdowns and 352 yards, and tacked on a rushing touchdown. After a slow start for the young quarterback, Stafford was on pace for just 13 touchdowns after the first seven weeks. He broke out of his funk against the Seahawks in a game that came down to the final drive.
Stafford found Titus Young for 2 touchdowns, one being the game winner. Young has stepped into the second wide receiver spot on the depth chart as Nate Burleson is out for the season with a broken leg. After a lot of preseason hype, Young has finally proven his worth and is now a must own in all fantasy leagues. Calvin Johnson has continued his anemic pace, only catching 3 passes for 46 yards. Young now has 3 touchdowns, which gives him 3x more touchdowns that Johnson. What a crazy world we live in.
Stafford’s touchdown pass to Young in the last 20 seconds came on a 3rd and goal. He stood in the pocket and delivered a well placed ball. This game winner was nothing out of the ordinary. Stafford has a flare for the dramatic, as he has led the Lions in 7 game winning drives in the last two seasons, which is 2nd most in the NFL. This slump busting performance has Lions faithful and Stafford fantasy owners breathing a sigh of relief.
