Fantasy Football Week 8 Stud Performance: Patriots RB Stevan Ridley

By Michael J. Igyarto

New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley played like a stud for his fantasy football owners in week 8 against the St. Louis Rams. In a game that was played at Wembley Stadium in London, the Patriots put a beating down on the lowly Rams, defeating them 45-7. Ridley had a pretty impressive game, seeing that he only rushed the ball 15 times, but notched 127 rushing yards and a touchdown. He averaged 8.4 yards per carry, and only Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin rushed for more yards this week.

Ridley finished the day with 18 standard scoring fantasy points, which was third highest of the week for running backs, only behind Cleveland Browns RB Trent Richardson, who finished with 19, and Doug Martin, who finished with a whopping 32 fantasy points. Ridley had three rushes for 20+ yards, including a 41-yard scamper in the third quarter that could have resulted in a touchdown, but was caught at the six-yard line. That drive resulted in a Stephen Gostkowski 26-yard field goal that gave the Patriots a commanding 38-7 lead.

Patriots QB Tom Brady also had himself an impressive day, throwing for 304 yards and four touchdowns. He found TE Rob Gronkowski for two of those touchdowns, and the other pair to WR Brandon Lloyd. Overall, it was a very studly day for the New England Patriots and the owners of Brady, Ridley, Gronkowski, and Lloyd.

This was the fourth game this season that Ridley has eclipsed the 100-yard mark, and he now has 716 rushing yards and five touchdowns on the season. The Patriots have only had two 1,000 yard rushers over the last decade, with BenJarvus Green-Ellis barley reaching the milestone in 2010 with 1,008 rushing yards, and Corey Dillon in 2004. The workload in New England will never be a heavy one for Ridley, since head coach Bill Belichick likes to use a trio of backs, but if he continues to run like this, it won’t matter. You don’t see many backs rushing for 120+ on only 15 carries, but Ridley did just that today, and for that, he deserves week 8 stud performer honors.
