Fantasy Football Elite Quarterback: Matt Ryan

Fantasy owners knew coming into the 2012 fantasy season that the Atlanta Falcons had two deep threats, Roddy White and Julio Jones, worthy of high draft picks. However, most did not see Matt Ryan having a career year and in the process turning into an elite, yes elite, fantasy quarterback. Fantasy owners struck it big when they took Ryan in the middle rounds. Here’s a quick run down of his achievements through 8 weeks.

Ryan has rivaled many of the quarterbacks to go before him in this year’s fantasy draft. He is currently tied with Peyton Manning for 3rd in touchdowns thrown with 17. Ryan is sporting a 68.7 completion percentage, ahead of the likes of Peyton, Tom Brady, and Drew Brees. Matty Ice is currently the 6th highest scoring fantasy quarterback, and has had only one game where he scored less than 20 fantasy points. He has been a consistent producer all year, in a game where consistency is as rare as a talented Kardashian.

Ryan is coming off of a performance against the Philadelphia Eagles where skeptics warned owners to be wary of the bad weather. The Falcons quarterback promptly completed 22 of 29 passes for 262 yards. Three touchdowns later and a win in Philly, the weather talk was hushed.

Looking ahead, Ryan has a tough matchup with the Dallas Cowboys in Week 9, but will face the pathetic New Orleans Saints defense in Week 10. He won’t see a top 10 pass defense after Dallas. With the multiple weapons on the outside and the rebirth of Tony Gonzalez, Matt Ryan will undoubtedly keep up his elite play.
