Fantasy Football Week 9 Stud Performance: Lions RB Mikel Leshoure

We might only be halfway into the early slate of games, but there have been some big fantasy football performances already. One player that is giving a stud performance in week 9 has to be Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure. Through three quarters of football, Leshoure has 70 rushing yards on 16 carries. That’s not eye-popping numbers by any means, but those three touchdowns he scored in the first half was certainly impressive, seeing that the man had ONE career rushing TD going into this game.

There was no scoring in the first quarter by the Lions or the Jacksonville Jaguars, but that all changed early in the second quarter when Leshoure scored from seven yards out to give Detroit a 7-0 lead. About four minutes later, Leshoure struck again, scoring from one yard out giving Detroit a 14-0 lead.

The entire Lions team is producing today, as QB Matthew Stafford has completed 18 of his 27 attempts for 235 yards. WR Calvin Johnson has caught 6 of those attempts from Stafford for 111 yards, but neither have recorded a touchdown. Heck, even the Lions defense has been lights out, as they haven’t even allowed 100 yards to the Jaguars offense today.

All fantasy players that own Stafford and Johnson should be happy I guess, but it’s the Leshoure owners who are the real winners today. Mikel is the week 9 fantasy football scoring leader at the moment with 24.40 standard points, and there is still a whole quarter to play. We all knew Leshoure would have a decent day today against the Jaguars 29th ranked rushing defense, but nobody saw three touchdowns.

As a matter of fact, Leshoure was only being started in 53% of leagues today, despite being owned in virtually all leagues. Tough break for those that didn’t start him, but for the owners who did congrats on the great day, Leshoure is giving you one hell of a performance today, and for that he deserves fantasy football stud of the week honors.
