Bye Week Kick-started Doug Martin in Fantasy Football

So if you haven’t heard, Doug “The Muscle Hamster” Martin made headlines for a second consecutive week.

After out dueling Adrian Peterson on Thursday Night Football, he decided his performance wasn’t enough.

Against the 21st ranked Oakland Raiders defense, Martin had a game for the record books.  He rushed for 251 yards- and nearly broke Peterson’s single game rush record for a rookie – with four rushing touchdowns.

For fantasy football owners, he was a glorified treasure.

Martin racked up 51 points, which is the season-high for anybody, but I believe he’s the last player since Michael Vick’s epic Monday night performance in 2010 to amass such a point total.  Believe it or not, I witnessed some people sitting him for the week.  Ain’t that a kick in the head (Dean Martin voice)?

However, I have noticed that this Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offense has had a pattern.

In a recent article, I pinpointed how Josh Freeman has been one of the hottest throwing quarterbacks since the Bucs week five bye.  The very same can be said about Martin.

Since said bye, Martin’s numbers have been on a rapid increase, rushing for 76, 85, 135, and 251 yards; not to mention, combine that with his seven touchdowns.  With his steady rise of production comes a rise in fantasy production.  Martin has notched 12, 17, 32, and 51 in this stretch.  He’s starting to make his presence known to be included in the Fantasy Football MVP rankings.

In his last four match ups, they’ve been against the Kansas City Chiefs, New Orleans Saints, a stout Minnesota Vikings run defense, and of course, Oakland.

The Bucs play the San Diego Chargers, a team who is a middle-of-the-pack run defense.  Continue to start him without any hesitation.  Martin is “the man, the man,” and he’s here to stay.
