Fantasy Football TE Showdown: Graham Vs Gonzalez

The 2 best tight ends in the league met on Sunday afternoon in what was a huge game for fantasy owners. The Atlanta Falcon’s Tony Gonzalez has surprised fantasy owners with a huge year. On the other side of the ball, the New Orleans Saints new school tight end Jimmy Graham also was poised for a big game.

The age-less wonder Tony Gonzalez was at it again. The attention to the two outside threats, Julio Jones and Roddy White, have allowed Gonzalez 1 on 1 matchups with slower linebackers. On Sunday, his team may have lost their first game of the season, and he may have dropped a pass that was in his hands to end the game, but that isn’t what fantasy owners cared about. Fantasy owners care about the 11 catches, 122 yards, and 2 touchdowns. In standard formats the sure hands Tony Gonzalez just gave you 24 points. The old man can still ball.

However, Jimmy Graham was not to be out done. The young athletic tight end hauled in 7 catches for 146 yards and 2 touchdowns. Drew Brees loves his big target in the end zone, and gave Graham his first multi touchdown game of the year. This was also the first game that Graham topped the 100 yard mark. In standard formats, Graham out dueled the veteran, gracing fantasy owners with 26 points.

Chalk this showdown up for the young gun, and the New Orleans Saints, as both their tight end and their team came out on top. This was the first loss for the Falcons, but I would not expect for Gonzalez’s production to falter down the home stretch.
