This past weekend was just another example of why Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning has once again earned the title as fantasy football‘s best quarterback. Manning threw for 242 passing yards, three touchdowns, and one interception in the 31-23 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This was Manning’s seventh game this season with three touchdown passes and it has seemingly become the norm from the former Tennessee Volunteer quarterback.
In the Bucs game, Manning threw two of his three touchdowns to his new favorite downfield target, wide receiver Demaryius Thomas. Thomas has grabbed four touchdown passes in the last three games and the duo looks to have built an amazing rapport over the last month.
Also helping Manning post spectacular numbers this season is the team’s second receiver, Eric Decker. If Thomas is the team’s main downfield threat, than Decker is easily the team’s possession receiver. Decker has been targeted eight times or more in seven of the team’s 12 games this season and has quickly earned Manning’s trust.
Manning has amazingly thrown 24 touchdowns over the last nine games and is finally looking like the elite fantasy option everyone knows him as. He is making adjustments at the line of scrimmage, standing confidently inside the pocket, and finally throwing the ball accurately over 25 yards; all things which are vintage Peyton Manning. He is playing perfect football at the perfect time, the fantasy playoffs.
An additional benefit for Manning is that he has three outstanding matchups throughout the fantasy playoffs. In Week 14 he faces the Oakland Raiders’ 24th-ranked pass defense, Baltimore Ravens’ 23rd-ranked pass defense in Week 15, and Cleveland Browns’ 21st-ranked pass defense in Week 16. These are all favorable matchups for the four-time MVP to abuse, so expect him to post MVP fantasy numbers down the stretch.
Manning has all the weapons around him to have a huge fantasy football playoff. He is finally getting on the same page as his star receivers and is playing some of the worst pass defenses in the league. Manning should easily throw 10 touchdowns down the stretch this year and lead his fair share of fantasy owners to a championship.
