Fantasy Football 2012: Top IDPs of Week 14
Fantasy Football Week 14 Best IDPs
IDPs in Week 14 of the NFL season had a great week of production. With 73 sacks, 31 interceptions, 26 forced fumbles, 17 fumble recoveries and eight defensive touchdowns, IDPs were busy this week making big plays all over the field. In total, team defenses as a whole kept 14 teams to 20 points or less this week.
With a huge pool of players to choose from in IDP leagues, there are many viable options to use depending on league size, the number of IDP positions in your league and other variables. While finding and using the best players are easy to point out, it is the top individual performances of the week that can sometimes be the difference between a win and loss. Here are some of the better IDP options this week.
Week 14 Honorable Mentions:
10 (tied). LB Lawrence Timmons (16% owned) – 11.00 points
10 (tied). CB Quentin Jammer (4% owned) – 11.00 points
8 (tied). LB Bobby Wagner (15% owned) – 12.00 points
8 (tied). LB Anthony Spencer (11% owned) – 12.00 points
7. LB Will Witherspoon (2% owned) – 13.00 points
6. LB Luke Kuechly (50% owned) – 13.50 points
While these defensive leaders and stars had great showings in Week 14, they were not the best of the best this week. If you were able to own and start any of these IDPs, you likely had a big advantage in this week’s matchup. Here’s a look at the five highest-scoring IDPs from Week 14.
* Player statistics and ownership numbers are up to date as of Tuesday, December 11 and are subject to change after these games. Fantasy point totals determined through standard Yahoo! fantasy football scoring structure. IDP scoring: Tackle solo - 1 point, Tackle assist - 0.5, Sack - 2, Interception - 3, Fumble Force - 2, Fumble Recovery - 2, Defensive Touchdown - 6, Safety - 2, Return touchdown – 6.
5. LB/DE Cameron Wake, Miami Dolphins
Week 14 statistics: 6 solo tackles, 3 sacks, 1 forced fumble
Season statistics: 33 solo tackles, 11 assist tackles, 14 sacks, 2 forced fumbles
Below average in the past month, Wake broke out for a huge game against the 49ers. Sacking Colin Kaepernick three times in Week 14, he put together his best overall game of the season. As a versatile IDP option with eligibility at defensive end, Wake is a valuable player for the last weeks of the season.
4. S Harrison Smith, Minnesota Vikings
Week 14 statistics: 5 solo tackles, 2 assist tackles, 1 interception, 1 defensive touchdown
Season statistics: 52 solo tackles, 29 assist tackles, 3 interceptions, 1 fumble recovery, two defensive touchdowns
After an excellent 11-tackle game last week against the Green Bay Packers, Smith followed up this outing with the second interception in as many games. Picking off Jay Cutler for a 56-yard touchdown return, he has started to emerge as a great IDP option in the end of his rookie season.
2 (tied). CB Richard Sherman, Seattle Seahawks
Week 14 statistics: 1 solo tackle, 1 assist tackles, 2 interceptions, 1 fumble recovery, 1 defensive touchdown
Season statistics: 43 solo tackles, 6 assist tackles, 1 sack, 6 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 1 defensive touchdown
One of three players this week with multiple interceptions, Sherman was one of the many IDP options from Seattle to have a big game against the Cardinals. Aside from scoring his first career touchdown, he has played well despite waiting on his appeal for his four-game performance-enhancing drug suspension.
2 (tied). S Stevie Brown, New York Giants
Week 14 statistics: 7 solo tackles, 1 assist tackle, 2 interceptions, 1 forced fumble
Season statistics: 51 solo tackles, 10 assist tackles, 7 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries
Brown was one of the other defensive players to have two interceptions this week. Reaching this mark for the second time this season, he has become one of the better big play defenders this season after having zero interceptions in his first two seasons.
1. CB Cassius Vaughn, Indianapolis Colts
Week 14 statistics: 8 solo tackles, 1 interception, 1 defensive touchdown
Season statistics: 41 solo tackles, 8 assist tackles, 1 interception, 1 defensive touchdown
In what was only his first interception of the season, Vaughn returned it for three yards for the easy touchdown. Making nice plays throughout the day, he has made improvements this season but has yet to garner enough consistency for fantasy relevancy.
