Fantasy Football 2012: Stud Performance; Cincinnati Bengals D/ST

In a game where offensive production was scarce, it was a defensive unit that stole the show.

During Thursday night’s 34-13 blowout victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, the Cincinnati Bengals defense was the largest fantasy producer. They opened their first defensive series with a strip of wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, which they recovered. While the league’s leading team in sacks (43) only brought down Nick Foles once tonight, they did however, pick him off once.

That wasn’t even close to all they did.

When the final whistle sounded, the Bengals had forced a total of four fumbles, one of which was recovered and ran back for a touchdown. In Yahoo! league scoring, these cats finished with an impressive 23 fantasy points. This makes for the fifth double digit fantasy point outing during their last six contests.

I ranked this unit second among defenses for this week and it sure paid off. The Eagles have been generous to opposing fantasy defenses and continued that trend tonight. It’s honestly shocking to me that this defense is still overlooked as one of the better in football. They will have to continue to play top notch defense, as they currently hold a Wild Card spot. And with their two division rivals on track for the final two games of the season, expect them to play as hard as ever.
