No quarterback in the league is getting more attention than Seattle Seahawks starting quarterback, Russell Wilson. Wilson ran wild last weekend as he had three rushing touchdowns and 92 yards on the ground in the team’s 50-17 clobbering of the Buffalo Bills in their annual game in Toronto. He also threw for over 200 yards and another touchdown in the one-sided contest. It was one of Wilson’s most impressive fantasy football performances to date, so naturally everyone will think he is a must-start in Week 16, but hold on.
This weekend Wilson has to face the San Francisco 49ers and their top-ranked defense. The 49ers stifled Tom Brady last Sunday night, as the future Hall of Fame quarterback threw two interceptions in a 41-34 loss. Brady eventually found some holes in the 49ers defense, but that is just Brady being Brady. Most of the game the 49ers were able to contain one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game.
Additionally, the last time Wilson played this San Fran defense, he finished with horrible fantasy numbers. He was 9 of 23 passing for a meager 122 yards. Wilson also ran the ball three times for only 10 yards. He did not score a single touchdown and threw a costly interception, which all but erased his fantasy value for the afternoon.
Wilson has been playing much better lately and is currently on fire. Unfortunately for him, so is the 49ers’ defense. Wilson will struggle to get the edge against the 49ers fast linebackers and will once again have to deal with the Smith brothers (Aldon Smith and Justin Smith) in his face all night.
It would be best for fantasy owners to look elsewhere for a starter this weekend. Wilson will have a very tough game and will get a rude awakening to the division in another pivotal primetime game. Expect him to throw a couple picks this Sunday night and severely disappoint any fantasy owners that actually start him.
Week 16 Fantasy Prediction: 15-33, 210 passing yards, 1 passing TD, 2 INTs, 21 rushing yards, 0 rushing TDs
