Fantasy Football 2012: Santa's Nice List; Dez Bryant

Towards the beginning of the 2012 campaign, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant had been killing fantasy owners who drafted him. Not because of lack of talent or skill. But something completely different.

Inconsistency.

However, over the past seven games or so, Bryant has been anything but inconsistent. Bryant started the season off having a below average year. Now, after a handful of monster performances, he is having a Pro Bowl caliber season.

On Sunday, Bryant’s Cowboys hosted the New Orleans Saints. Many fantasy owners were excited about this matchup, as the Saints have been the most generous defense in fantasy football. I expected Bryant to have a very good game, but I didn’t think he’d produce video game type numbers. Bryant caught nine balls on the day, which would have been a solid fantasy performance in PPR formats alone. Then when you add 224 yards and two scores, it becomes incredible. Especially when you consider that Bryant has been putting up these numbers with a broken index finger. Surgery? Not necessary, according to Dez.

Since Week 11, Dez has an absolutely mind-boggling 721 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. Are you kidding me? No, seriously. I’ve said it before, when he wants to be, Dez can be one of the best wideouts in the NFL. No question about it. From a fantasy perspective, Bryant went from a top 20 receiver to a must-start top five option. His stock continues to rise heading into 2013.

Bryant has certainly always been capable of playing at an elite level. I mean, the dude caught eight touchdown passes as a rookie. Now, his head is straight and he is making the big plays down the field. There is no doubt that he will be a top 10 wide receiver drafted in fantasy leagues next season.
