2013 Fantasy Football: Do Not Draft Philip Rivers

There are a lot of fantasy football owners that have finished their 2012 seasons already so the planning for the 2013 campaign has begun. There are players that owners aren’t going to want any part of in 2013 including Philip Rivers. Rivers leads my players not to draft when the 2013 season comes around.

Rivers has been awful the last two seasons with 35 interceptions with one game to go in the 2012 season. Those numbers kill fantasy football teams as interceptions mean negative points in every league out there. There are many quarterbacks that should be much higher on your list when you begin the 2013 season. The options include Andy Dalton, Josh Freeman and a resurgent Cam Newton. This is why making sure you pick a quarterback early becomes a very important of the fantasy football game in this day and age. You don’t want to be the owner who is last to pick a quarterback and are staring at Rivers’ name not wanting to pick him.

It is very likely that the San Diego Chargers fire their coach and general manager so the whole offense will be different in 2013. Will that help or hurt Rivers? Who knows but he really can’t be much worse than he has been lately. The only way to draft Rivers is as a backup who gets started just once the whole season and no more than that. Is there a way that things change between now and August? There is no doubt it could but for now, keep Rivers off your draft board.
