The 2012 National Football League season ends this weekend and many fantasy football owners have already started their preparation toward the 2013 season. There is one question that pops into my mind right away when I’m thinking about the top pick for next season. I am fairly certain that the No. 1 pick for many fantasy owners will be Adrian Peterson.
Peterson likely slipped all the way to the third round or worse in a ton of leagues this season and that won’t happen next year. Peterson was the top pick for many leagues for several seasons and I think he has proved he should be the top pick yet again in 2013. There will be others who contend that Arian Foster should still be the top dog at the running back position but with the performance that Peterson put up in 2012, Peterson has overtaken Foster.
If I drafted for 2013 tomorrow, I would have Peterson as the No. 1 pick with Foster being right behind followed by Aaron Rodgers and Calvin Johnson being picks 3 and 4. It is obvious now that Peterson is the best running back in the NFL and with no disrespect to anyone else, Peterson should be the top pick in your 2013 fantasy football draft right now. There will be things that change between now and when drafts are done again in August but Peterson is the safest pick out there and you have to figure that Christian Ponder will be better in 2013 along with the return of Percy Harvin for the Minnesota Vikings. Those two things should help Peterson be close to the same player in 2013 as he was in 2012.
