Fantasy Basketball 2013: January 4 Best Performers

January 4
Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

From great scoring performances to solid showings on defense featuring plenty of steals and blocks, elite individual performances can help owners win categories in Week 10 matchups. On Thursday, January 3, PF/C Kosta Koufos, SF/PF Carmelo Anthony and SG/SF J.R. Smith made up the top three studs from yesterday. From Koufo’s well-rounded outing, particularly in the defensive categories, against the Minnesota Timberwolves to Anthony’s 23 points, best among all players on Thursday, against the San Antonio Spurs, these players certainly provided great fantasy performances for their owners in Week 10.

With 11 games on Friday, January 4, 2013, fantasy squads had plenty of opportunities to improve their statistics in different categories. Who else provided fantasy owners with great numbers on this day of NBA action?

Friday, January 4, 2013 Honorable Mentions:

10. PG Deron Williams – 24 points (three made 3-pointers), seven rebounds, 10 assists

9. SF/PF LeBron James – 30 points (13-16 free throws), six rebounds

8. SG Bradley Beal – 24 points (two made 3-pointers), six rebounds, three steals

7. C Brook Lopez – 27 points (11-14 free throws), 13 rebounds, three blocks

6. PF/C Carlos Boozer – 27 points, 12 rebounds

Harden has been a big reason for the Houston Rockets’ winning ways, as they’ve won 10 of their past 13 games. With Jeremy Lin missing some time, he also led the team as a facilitator with seven assists in the game.

4. SG Kobe Bryant (at Los Angeles Clippers, 100% owned)

Despite leading all players on the day with 38 points, Bryant’s effort was not enough to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a victory on the “road” against the Clippers. In this high-profile game, he also chipped in five steals to his very good fantasy outing.

3. PG Chris Paul, Los Angeles Clippers

3. PG Chris Paul (vs. Lakers, 100% owned)

Statistics: 41 minutes, 11-25 FGM-A, 7-7 FTM-A, 1-4 3PM-A, 30 PTS, 6 REB, 13 AST, 2 STL, 0 BLK, 4 TO

Paul was a much bigger scorer for the Clippers in this game due to the absence of Jamal Crawford, who was out with a foot injury. His 25 shot attempts were the most of the season and his 30 points were also a season-high.

2. PG Kyrie Irving, Cleveland Cavaliers

2. PG Kyrie Irving (at Charlotte Bobcats, 100% owned)

Statistics: 38 minutes, 10-21 FGM-A, 10-10 FTM-A, 3-4 3PM-A, 33 PTS, 5 REB, 6 AST, 4 STL, 3 BLK, 5 TO

In a last-second win over the Bobcats, Irving made the game-winning shot and absolutely dominated the game across the board. His three blocks were certainly an unexpected bonus, as this was certainly his best all-around fantasy game of the season.

1. PF/C DeMarcus Cousins, Sacramento Kings

1. PF/C DeMarcus Cousins (at Toronto Raptors, 99% owned)

Statistics: 33 minutes, 11-18 FGM-A, 9-12 FTM-A, 0-0 3PM-A, 31 PTS, 20 REB, 4 AST, 2 STL, 0 BLK, 4 TO

Season averages: 28 GP, .421 FG%, .778 FT%, 0-0 3PTM, 17.1 PTS, 10.3 REB, 2.7 AST, 1.5 ST, 0.6 BLK, 2.6 TO

Looking unstoppable against the Raptors, Cousins has played like a completely different player as of late. His brief “indefinite” suspension has done wonders for his resurgence, as this game featured career-highs in points and rebounds.
