2013 Fantasy Baseball: Draft Andrew McCutchen Within Top 15 Picks

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The time has begun for fantasy baseball owners to begin thinking about the 2013 season and their draft in February or March. There is going to be a lot of buzz around the top picks but there should be a focus on a player that may be under the radar because of where he plays. I suggest trying to get Andrew McCutchen this season for your team.

McCutchen is in a Pittsburgh Pirates order that seems to be peaking now with the likes of Neil Walker and Pedro Alvarez around McCutchen in the lineup. McCutchen was a stud for fantasy baseball owners in 2012 and will produce very close to what he did this past season again in 2013. McCutchen is the type of player who can give you the five tools which is important with power not being as available these days. If you are in a league where batting average and stolen bases are a big part of the league, McCutchen could get drafted very early so having him high on your list of players you must draft is essential.

If I was drafting right now, McCutchen would land early in the second round around No. 12 overall. If you are getting McCutchen in the early second round, then filling a position other than outfield should be a priority with the first-round pick. However, there is no doubt that McCutchen will be a top-ten outfielder in fantasy baseball coming up in 2013. If your draft is coming sooner than later, begin your list of must-have players with Andrew McCutchen.
