2013 Fantasy Baseball: Be Leery Of Adam Jones

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The 2013 fantasy baseball season is just around the corner and with that means deep preparation for whom to target for this season. There are going to be many outfielders that land in the middle rounds of the draft who can help any fantasy team out but I’m going to give you one that I would pay close attention to. That player would be Adam Jones and if he can repeat what he did in 2012.

Jones was a player that was the cornerstone of several fantasy baseball teams for sure in 2012 and while I think 2013 will be another solid season for Jones, I would temper expectations some. The Baltimore Orioles lineup overachieved quite a bit last season and may come down to earth in 2013. If that happens, Jones will see his numbers come down as well. Jones has the ability to hit 20-25 home runs and have 90-100 RBI with the Orioles and if you want those numbers, a lot of other players deeper in the draft could give you something similar.

If I was drafting right now, Jones would land in the fourth round for me. Jones is in the range of 8-12 of outfielders off the board for me. I would probably pick another outfielder before Jones but if you end up with Jones as your first outfielder, you won’t be disappointed but just don’t expect last season again. There are things that change in fantasy baseball each year and some things that stay consistent. I think Jones will be a change in 2013.
