2013 Fantasy Football: Matt Forte’s Value Depends On Coaching Choice

Tim Fuller-USA TODAY Sports

Even though the 2012 National Football League season isn’t over yet, there are people looking ahead to 2013 and fantasy football. Matt Forte is a player whose value will be largely determined by who ends up coaching the Chicago Bears. Forte could easily become a first round pick with the right coach or a player that falls into the third or fourth round.

Forte was very good when he was on the field in 2012 and probably was a top-10 running back in many leagues but my problem comes in if Forte doesn’t see the ball more in 2013. He didn’t see much of it as it was this season but if Forte’s role is reduced even more next season, Forte becomes a player that may only be a flex play each week. Forte is a talented player though who will be a 1,000 yard rusher next season I think but will it take 300 carries just to get there?

If I was drafting for next season right now, Forte would sit in the late third round for me. There are just too many variables with Forte to feel comfortable with picking him very early. That could all change between now and before drafts happen in 2013 but at this point in time, Forte just isn’t a high draft pick. There are too many other running backs that I would take over Forte. I would suggest that you watch the Bears’ search for a coach though and if a coach like Darrell Bevell comes in, Forte’s value goes up.
