Top 10 Fantasy Golfers for Farmers Insurance Open
Top 10 Golfers for Farmers Insurance Open
Tournament: Farmers Insurance Open (Formerly Buck Invitational)
Location: Torrey Pines, La Jolia, California
Date: January 24-27, 2013
Course Par: 72
Past Winners: Brandt Snedeker (2012), Bubba Watson (2011), Ben Crane (2010), Nick Watney (2009), Tiger Woods (2008), Tiger Woods (2007), Tiger Woods (2006), Tiger Woods (2005), John Daly (2004), Tiger Woods (2003), Jose Maria Olazabal (2002), Phil Mickelson (2001), Phil Mickelson (2000), Tiger Woods (1999)
Hole To Watch: Hole #7
The seventh hole is a deceptively long par 4, and the entire left side of the hole is blanketed by a treacherous mountain scape. It will no doubt cause more than a handful of golfers to lose a ball and be forced to take an out of bounds penalty. This hole will be quite intimidating for the pros this week, so expect several of them to lay it up and play it safe.
No golfer has had success here like Tiger Woods. He has won a record six times at this event and has dominated the course like no other. He will need a strong showing after his meltdown last weekend in the “sand”, but expect him to easily make the cut.
This tournament will also mark the 2013 PGA debut of superstar Phil Mickelson. Lefty has been rather quiet this off-season and that is exactly how he likes it. He is ready to have a bounce back season in 2013, and the Farmers Open will be the beginning.
There are also some other big names making the trip to California. Keegan Bradley, Bradnt Snedeker, and Bubba Watson will all be heading to the west coast and have just as good a shot to win as anyone else on the tour.
Here are the top-10 fantasy golfers for the Farmers Insurance Open this week:
10. Bill Haas
Bill Haas - Haas will be a great sleeper to look for this week, as his amazing accuracy with his driver will come in handy on the open fairways at Torrey Pines.
9. Hunter Mahan
Hunter Mahan - Mahan has yet to have a solid round of golf this year, so it is only a matter of time until he makes some noise.
8. Harris English
Harris English - After a ninth place finish at the Sony Open, English followed it up by finishing 63rd at the Humana Challenge. He will be one of the fantasy enigmas of this event, so draft him with caution.
7. Bubba Watson
Bubba Watson - Watson won here in 2011 and will be looking to really make a splash this weekend in San Diego.
6. Nick Watney
Nick Watney - Watney finished 13th at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, but will be looking to rebound at a course where he has previously won.
5. Keegan Bradley
Keegan Bradley - Bradley has had a rocky start to his 2013 season, as he has finished fourth and 49th in his two tournament appearances. Keegs will breakout in one of these tournaments, so take a shot on him this week.
4. Dustin Johnson
Dustin Johnson - DJ is feeling fine after withdrawing from the Sony Open last weekend with flue-like symptoms. Johnson won the Hyundai Tournament of Champions earlier in the year, so expect him to be swinging the club well this week in Cali.
3. Tiger Woods
Tiger Woods - Woods has won this tournament six different times and would be the number one fantasy option this week if he was playing it better. He will still be a top-tier fantasy option this week, just not the number one option.
2. Brandt Snedeker
Brandt Snedeker - Snedeker won the Farmers Insurance Open last year and is coming off a strong showing after placing third at the Sony Open. The 2012 FedEx Champ will be a very popular selection this week.
1. Phil Mickelson
Phil Mickelson - This will be Mickelson’s first PGA event of the season. He had a somewhat down campaign last season, but it is always dangerous when Lefty is flying under the radar. Look for the Farmers Open to be the start of an amazing 2013 fantasy golf season for Mickelson.
