2013 Fantasy Baseball: Do Not Draft Mike Napoli

The 2013 fantasy baseball season is just around the corner and there are going to be players that shouldn’t be touched with a ten-foot pole in any league. One of those players in my opinion is Mike Napoli. Napoli has hip issues that ended the career of Bo Jackson before, and I don’t trust Napoli making it through a whole season.

While Napoli will play a lot of first base for the Boston Red Sox and won’t be catching as much anymore, the hip problems bother me more than anything. I don’t think Napoli can make it through the whole season and with where he is probably going to be drafted, I wouldn’t do it. There are too many other players without those problems that can be drafted much higher, and are safer picks. I think Napoli will play in only 100 games with 10-15 home runs and 60-65 RBIs for the Red Sox, and for a player that could be drafted within the top 50 in a draft, those numbers are just not good enough.

If I was drafting for 2013 today, I would pick Napoli very late or not pick him at all. He has taken a free fall in my world after finding out about the hip. It is just too dangerous of a pick for fantasy owners to make for their catcher position early. There are catchers like Miguel Montero or Brian McCann who are better options to be drafted over Napoli. It is just another note to make before drafting for 2013.
