2013 Fantasy Baseball: Take A Chance On Eric Hosmer

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

If there is one player who really needs a bounce back season in 2013, it is Eric Hosmer. Hosmer struggled through his sophomore season with the Kansas City Royals and will be counted on to be much better for Kansas City this coming season. There are fantasy baseball owners who got burned by Hosmer last season and are leery about making the same mistake again. I would suggest making the move and going back to Hosmer in 2013.

Hosmer is in the middle of a very powerful lineup with the Royals having players like Billy Butler and Mike Moustakas behind him. This is going to give Hosmer tons of chances to knock in runs as I believe Kansas City is going to be the surprise team of the season. I believe Hosmer will bounce back and hit about .275 with 20-25 home runs and 95-100 RBI. Those numbers are plenty good enough for a first baseman in fantasy baseball and if an owner can’t get Butler earlier, Hosmer works as a fine replacement.

If I was drafting today, I would pick Hosmer in the ninth round between picks 90-95. Hosmer is just too talented to have the season he had last year again this time around. The Royals are a year older now and even more experienced. I think players like Hosmer along with Moustakas are going to get even better. Hosmer is going to need Butler to have another great year behind him in the lineup to hit those projections but I don’t see any reason why fantasy owners shouldn’t make the jump on Hosmer again.
