During a season where a handful of veteran players continue to hold fantasy value, it appears that aging Anaheim Ducks forward Saku Koivu hasn’t missed a beat.
Through four contests in the shortened 2013 campaign, Koivu already has six points, including five assists. Despite being 38-years old, Koivu is still serving as a crucial piece to the Ducks organization. He is one of the better playmakers on the team and has terrific young talent around him to feed the puck to.
The Ducks are currently averaging just under four goals per contest, which ranks 6th in the league, so you can certainly expect Koivu to be a big part of the scoring this season. Koivu has also been a huge contributor to the recent emergence of fellow linemate Daniel Winnik. Whether Winnik is for real or not remains to be seen, however, if he does continue to consistently score goals, Koivu will pile up the assists with ease.
The powerplay is another huge factor to the possible appealing fantasy value of Koivu. With top tier offensive talents such as Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf and Bobby Ryan, Koivu will have a tremendous chance to continue racking up points if he sees steady powerplay time. Koivu has currently been added in over 1,000 Yahoo! fantasy leagues so if you are looking to add him to your roster, jump on the opportunity quickly.
