Top 10 Fantasy Golfers for Waste Management Phoenix Open
Top 10 Fantasy Golfers at WMPO
Tournament: Waste Management Phoenix Open
Date: January 31-February 3, 2013
Location: TPC Scottsdale - Scottsdale, Arizona
Course Par: 72
Past Winners: Kyle Stanley (2012), Mark Wilson (2011), Hunter Mahan (2010), Kenny Perry (2009), J. B. Holmes (2008), Aaron Baddeley (2007), J. B. Holmes (2006), Phil Mickelson (2005), Jonathan Kaye (2004), Vijay Singh (2003), Chris DiMarco (2002)
Hole to Watch: Hole #3 on The Stadium Course
The TPC Scottsdale is a 36-hole layout with plenty of open space and cacti. However, the third hole is one of the most treacherous on the entire course. The hole is a very long par-5, but the fairway looks more like a skiing mogul run than a fairway. Bunkers riddle the rough down the fairway and there is even a hidden bunker surrounding the entire green. This will easily be one of the most difficult holes and will cause more than a couple golfers to bust out their sand wedge.
The Waste Management Phoenix Open (WMPO) has really grown in popularity in recent years and the avid PGA fan can never forget Tiger Woods’ hole-in-one here back in 2008. It has also done wonders for the television viewership of the event, so expect this to be one of the biggest tournaments of the 2013 season.
To help you during your fantasy golf drafts this week, here are the top-10 fantasy golfers attending the Waste Management Phoenix Open:
10. Jimmy Walker
Jimmy Walker - Walker has quietly showed up in every tournament this season. He finished 10 under at the Sony Open, 19 under at the Humana Challenge, and nine under at the Farmers Insurance Open.
9. Jason Dufner
Jason Dufner - The Duffman has two consecutive ninth place finishes to begin the 2013 season. He is playing great golf right now and should be a top pick at the WMPO.
8. Rickie Fowler
Rickie Fowler - Fowler finished sixth at the Farmers Insurance Open and sixth Hyundai Tournament of Champions, so expect another top-10 finish from the 24-year-old.
7. Bill Haas
Bill Haas - After a slow start to the 2013 PGA season, Haas finally had a strong showing last week. He finished ninth at the Farmers Insurance Open and will be a popular sleeper heading into this week.
6. Robert Garrigus
Robert Garrigus - Garrigus is easily one of the most underrated golfers heading into the tournament. He finished eight under at the Farmers Insurance Open and 20 under at the Humana Challenge. He is also from Scottsdale, Arizona, so expect him to fare quite well on his home course.
5. Bubba Watson
Bubba Watson - Watson has played in only one tournament this year, but that was a fourth place finish at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. He has started his 2013 season off with a bang
4. Keegan Bradley
Keegan Bradley - Bradley missed the cut last week at the Farmers after shooting a miserable 70 and 77. Expect him to rebound at one of his favorite West Coast courses and easily crack the top-10.
3. Nick Watney
Nick Watney – Watney has been a pleasant surprise this year for fantasy owners. He finished fourth last week and will be a great sleeper to target in the desert.
2. Phil Mickelson
Phil Mickelson - Mickelson shooting even last week at the Farmers shows that he is still a little bit away from mid-season form. However, Lefty is still one of best in the game, so never count him out of a tournament.
1. Brandt Snedeker
Brandt Snedeker - Snedeker played beautifully last week and finished 10 strokes under par at the Farmers Insurance Open. However, he was still no match to Tiger Woods, who dominated the Farmers Open once again.
Snedeker still has two top-3 finishes in his first three PGA appearances of 2013 and is the hottest golfer out there right now.
