There are several names being tossed around as his replacement; players such as Leandro Barbosa, Avery Bradley and even Courtney Lee in some circles. None of these players have extensive starting experience.
However, in the rush of everyone trying to scramble to replace Rondo, it appears that PG/SG Jason Terry was completely overlooked as a potential starter. He was a star for years with the Dallas Mavericks, and even though he was on the Celtics bench, Terry was still putting up respectable fantasy numbers.
Before Rondo’s injury, Terry was averaging 9.9 points, 2.2 assists, 1.9 rebounds, 1.5 3-pointers and 0.9 steals in only 28 minutes a game. In his first game without Rondo, Terry finished with 12 points and four assists. He was also 5-7 from the field, while Bradley finished shooting a miserable 4-11 from the field.
In the first game without Rondo, Bradley received the first start at the point. However, Terry still managed to play more minutes and will most likely win the starting role in Boston sooner rather than later. Bradley is simply not a permanent solution at the point, so this is the perfect time to scoop up Terry before the guard really becomes a popular waiver wire pickup.
Terry will be a great source of points, assists and three-pointers for the rest of the season. Make sure to grab him this week off the fantasy basketball waiver wire in your league, because he won’t be there next week.
