2013 Fantasy Baseball: Matt Kemp Could Be Top Pick

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

With football season now over, it’s time to get serious about fantasy baseball and possible candidates for the top pick in your league. One player that should get serious consideration for that is Matt Kemp. Kemp is the perfect five-tool player that can bring every fantasy stat imaginable to the table.

Kemp is going to get even more help in the Los Angeles Dodgers lineup this season with the additions that have been made in the last six months. That just makes Kemp an even more dangerous player than he was last season when he was the No. 1 pick in a lot of leagues. Kemp could conceivably finish the 2013 season with a .315 average, 35-40 home runs and 110-120 RBIs. Those are obviously monster numbers as the Dodgers look like a team that could finish with nearly 100 wins this season.

If I was drafting right now, I would take Kemp with the No. 4 overall pick. I can’t look past Mike Trout, Miguel Cabrera and Ryan Braun as the top three picks right now. The owner who ends up with the fourth pick won’t be disappointed with that pick at all with the chance to get Kemp. This is going to be a year where if you can have one of the top four picks, you should be in great shape for the entire season. Kemp is the kind of player that can carry an entire fantasy team on his back for an entire week so if you have the chance to pick Kemp, have no second thoughts about it.
