2013 Fantasy NASCAR Profile: Denny Hamlin

Peter G. Aiken-USA TODAY Sports

Most fantasy NASCAR fans recognized that Jimmie Johnson and Brad Keselowski were tied for the NASCAR lead with five wins last season.

However, not many casual fans noticed that Denny Hamlin, and his #11 car, also racked up five victories throughout the 2012 season.

Hamlin finished sixth in overall points with 2,329. Most people would have wanted more points from a driver who won five races, but his numbers were still rather impressive for fantasy owners.

Hamlin may not be the most attractive fantasy option, but he will races hard week in and week out. He never gives up on a race, which is the reason why he was able to finish each race last season.

Hamlin will certainly be a dark horse to win the 2013 Sprint Cup Title. He cracked the top-10 17 different times, but he also finished 20th or worse 12 times. He is a real all or nothing fantasy driver.

Further proof of this comes when we look at his last 13 races of the 2012 season. Hamlin won three times and had two second place finishes, but he also finished 33rd and 24th in two races. He will seemingly either win the race or finish 30th, which doesn’t make him the most consistent fantasy option. However, he is the ultimate win big or go home driver.

Draft this fantasy driver with caution, but don’t be surprised to see him win another handful of races in 2013.
