Fantasy Baseball 2013: Jose Reyes is a First Round Pick

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Over the last two seasons, the Rogers Centre has been a top five ballpark for doubles and triples. Jose Reyes, who happens to be the most dynamic player in baseball, will call the Rogers Centre home as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays. Reyes will prosper under these new conditions and provide value for owners that select him in fantasy baseball.

Reyes is not the type of player that makes his living off of the long ball. In fact, Reyes seems to be most successful when he abandons the temptation to hit home runs and focuses on using his legs. Serving as the leadoff hitter in a lineup full of run producers, Reyes will be able to focus on his role more comfortably than at any other time in his career. Reyes has never had fewer than 12 triples or 40 steals in a season with 150 games or more games played.

If Reyes stays healthy, you can expect these numbers to serve as the minimum for his production in 2013. Reyes is built for the win-now mentality that Toronto recently adopted. For the first time in a while, Reyes will be part of a ball club that has championship expectations. This is all the motivation that the jubilant Reyes needs in order to perform to the highest of expectations. Excitement naturally follows Reyes as his passion for the game and carefree personality act as the intangibles that a championship team needs.

With Toronto promising to be one of the elite offensive teams, Reyes will be in line to score a ton of runs. Reyes will serve as the spark for an offense that is finally worthy of his talents. He will be asked to make plays and create runs with his legs, meaning that he may lead the league in runs, triples and steals.

The only concern with Reyes is that he has been prone to injuries over his career. This is the only factor worth considering that would make Reyes any less than a first round pick in fantasy drafts. Expect Reyes to his .298 with 110 runs, 34 doubles, 16 triples, 10 home runs, 55 RBIs and 50 steals.
