Salvador Perez is on the verge of becoming the face of the franchise for the Kansas City Royals. The 22 year old is positioned for a breakout season and the back stop to target with your fantasy draft looming.

Perez was injured for more than half of the 2012 season playing in only 76 games for the Royals and still ranking as one of the league’s top catchers.

Perez batted .301 with a .798 OPS and 11 home runs in 305 plate appearances which equated over a full season would be close to a 25 home run rookie campaign.

Perez ranked 1st in caught stealing percentage in the American League with a percentage of 41.9 percent of would be runners thrown out. Perez also ranked second among catchers in runs saved with 9 in only half a season.

The Royals identified the value of the Venezuelan as well locking him up until 2016 with 3 team options taking the deal to possibly 2019 and ensuring Perez is a main stay in Kansas City.

Perez will more than likely slide into that second tier of catchers grouping during your fantasy draft but you may want to gamble on him earlier than planned as there is no doubt this kid is the real deal.

Perez is undoubtedly the future face of the franchise in Kansas City and after this season will no longer be a sleeper or flying under the radar so do yourself a favour and select this diamond in the rough early and often.
