Martinsville is one of the oldest tracks around and the oval has been seeing cars fly around since 1947. You know a track is vintage when all the track records are owned by a driver named Richard Petty.
Denny Hamlin is a two-time winner of the race, but DH will be at home after breaking his back in the much publicized crash with Joey Logano. Logano claims that it was an accident, but Hamlin doesn’t seem so sure. Needless to say, the NASCAR world will be watching Logano very closely in Martinsville.
Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon have both won here seven times throughout their illustrious careers. Both drivers will be very popular picks in fantasy drafts this weekend and will no doubt be near the front of the pack all race long.
There are still some sleepers to keep an eye on if you miss out on the superstars. Drivers like Mark Martin, Martin Truex Jr., Brian Vickers, and Jamie McMurray will once again be great drivers to look for after the big names come off the board.
To help you in your drafts, here are the top 10 fantasy NASCAR drivers for the 2013 STP Gas Booster 500 this weekend:
10. Tony Stewart
Tony Stewart – Stewart has started out rough this season, as he only has one top-10 finish through the first five races.
9. Joey Logano
Joey Logano – Logano is getting a lot of heat right now, but look for him to be excited to get behind the wheel and forget about all the drama.
8. Kasey Kahne
Kasey Kahne - Kahne has cracked the top-nine in three straight races, including a win at Bristol. He is having a career season and is worth an early pick each race.
7. Carl Edwards
Carl Edwards – Edwards will start ninth at Martinsville and it will be his first top-10 start of the year. Look for him to have a strong race and rack up his third top-five finish in the last four races.
6. Matt Kenseth
Matt Kenseth – Kenseth has three top-seven finishes in the last four races.
5. Brad Keselowski
Brad Keselowski – Keselowski struggled last week in California and finished 23rd after starting in third. Look for the defending Sprint Cup Champ to finish much better than 23rd this Sunday.
4. Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. – Junior is having his best season as a pro and is currently leading the Sprint Cup Standings with 199 points. He has finished inside the top-seven in all five races this year.
3. Kyle Busch
Kyle Busch – Busch has finished inside the top-four in three straight races and has shaken off his early-season funk.
2. Jeff Gordon
Jeff Gordon – Gordon has also dominated Martinsville in recent years. In the last 20 races here, Gordon has four victories and 15 top-five finishes.
1. Jimmie Johnson
Jimmie Johnson – Johnson has amazingly won at Martinsville seven different times. He has also cracked the top-five in 15 of his last 19 appearances. Now factor in that he will be starting on the pole and he should easily be the top fantasy driver off the board this weekend.
