LW Alex Ovechkin Still Dominating Fantasy Hockey

Bruce Fedyck-USA TODAY Sports

Over the last couple weeks, no fantasy hockey player has been hotter than Washington Capitals LW Alex Ovechkin.

Ovechkin has somehow scored 15 goals in the last 12 contests and has been a menace to goaltenders all around the league. That is not all he has done, as he has also assisted on six more goals during his hot-streak.

More specifically, Ovi has been on an absolute tear in the month of April. He has scored an jaw-dropping seven goals and has added two assists in the team’s four games this month. It seems like every shot that Ovechkin has taken lately has ended up in the back of the net and fantasy hockey owners couldn’t be happier.

After his sudden scoring surge, Ovechkin suddenly finds himself tied for the NHL lead in goals scored. He currently has 25 goals on the year and is tied with Tampa Bay Lightning C Steven Stamkos.

Not to be heralded as a one-dimensional player, though, Ovi also has 18 assists on the year. The 27-year has always been an accredited goal scorer, but the fact that he is posting an assist every other game certainly helps his overall fantasy value.

Ovechkin is a dark horse for the fantasy hockey MVP this season, and Ovi could be the new frontrunner if Pittsburgh Penguins C Sydney Crosby doesn’t come back soon from his latest injury scare.

Ovechkin doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon, so expect the winger to have a huge performance throughout the fantasy hockey playoffs this season.
