The Colorado Rockies are off to a 7-4 start with all credit given to their high-powered offense. The Colorado lineup boasts five of their starters batting above .310 and a league-leading 20 home runs. With an array of big bats centered in their lineup, it might come as a surprise that Dexter Fowler is leading the way with six homers. Fantasy baseball players need to recognize Fowler as a prime candidate for a breakout season.
Fowler discretely finished the 2012 season at the .300 mark and has come out of the gate swinging, only this year it’s with power. Fowler is tied atop the leader board with six homers in his first 11 games. This is astounding after Fowler had just 28 home runs in his first 548 games. Most would probably attribute this early power surge to the hitter friendly confines of Coors Field but eight games and four of his homers have come on the road.
Nobody would have ever thought that stolen bases would be the issue holding Fowler back from his first 20-20 season. He swiped a career high 27 bags in 2009 but hasn’t exceeded 13 since. If Colorado gives Fowler the green light to help ignite the top of the lineup, fantasy owners could be in for a steal as well.
Fowler signed a deal this offseason to stay in Colorado for the foreseeable future which gives him significant value in dynasty leagues as well. Grab Fowler before other owners start to realize that this guy is the real deal.
