The Denver Broncos had one of the best free agent signings in this entire offseason when they acquired one of the best slot receivers in the game in Wes Welker. This opens up an entire new element in the Broncos’ offense.
They add Welker to an already elite crew of receivers. Welker is going to be in the slot, while Eric Decker and Demaryius Thomas are going to lining up on the outside. Peyton Manning will have so many options, he may not know what to do with himself.
The Broncos will have a problem with all these receivers and a running back that deserves carries. They are going to have to figure out how to get all of these guys touches. With the ball going to be spread around so much, you want the guy who is going to be the most productive with the touches he gets from a fantasy perspective. Who is that going to be from the Broncos’ receiving core?
Determining production after such a change in player personnel is difficult. It is a similar situation to what we were guessing Manning would do last season.
Using last season as an indication, we know that Decker and Thomas have very good chemistry already with Manning. This makes me think that Welker won’t get as many receptions as he did with the New England Patriots. For me, that knocks out Welker.
That leaves you with Decker and Thomas. Both of these guys finished in the top ten last season in most standard scoring leagues. On NFL.com fantasy football standard scoring, they finished fifth and seventh. Basically, you can’t go wrong with either of those guys.
I have a feeling Decker’s receptions are going to be taken away more than Thomas’. This is why I would take Demaryius Thomas out of all three Broncos receivers.
