2013 Fantasy Baseball Prospect Profile: 3B Nolan Arenado

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

In fantasy baseball, one of the most popular positions to target for prospects is third base. There seem to never be enough reliable stars at the hot corner, so dynasty league owners love to load up on them.

One of the best prospects at third right now is Colorado Rockies‘ Nolan Arenado.

The To-Arenado has started off hot in Colorado Springs this year and he has been absolutely crushing the ball. He has 11 doubles, three home runs, and an insane 21 RBIs through the first 16 games of the 2013 MiLB season. He currently has a robust .414 batting average and has been shooting up prospect lists.

Arenado led the minors with 122 RBIs in 2011, but he followed it up with just 56 in 2012. Also, his average dipped from .298 in Hi-A in 2011, all the way down to .285 in Double-A ball in 2012. However, most players struggle making the transition into the Double-A, so it isn’t too concerning.

Despite his minor dip in production, the slugger has still been a consistent power source. Arenado has bashed 32 home runs in the last two years and has been one of the most dangerous long ball hitters in the minors. Arenado has all the skill to be an extremely productive home run hitter when he finally arrives at Coors Field.

Arenado is one of the only true third base prospects to target in dynasty leagues. He has been playing the position forever and has true 30-home run potential. Arenado is worth targeting in dynasty leagues now, because in a couple years the kid will be untouchable.
