The event may still be a couple weeks away, but Tiger Woods has already confirmed the defense of his title at the Memorial Tournament this season. Woods will once again be traveling to Dublin, OH and fantasy golf fans should not make the mistake of overlooking Tiger at the end of the month.
Looking through the numbers, Woods has completely dominated the course in the past. Woods has won five times (2012, 2009, 2001, 2000, and 1999) in his 14 appearances at Memorial. He even won here three straight years from 1999-2001, which was part of the stretch in his prime that started his legacy.
TW has more wins at Memorial than any other golfer. The next closest golfer is Kenny Perry and he has just three wins. In Tiger’s five victories in Dublin, only one of them was decided by a single stroke. The majority of the wins were embarrassing, as he won in 2001 by seven strokes and in 2000 by five strokes. This shows that when Tiger wins he wins big.
However, Tiger has also done well in the tournaments that he hasn’t won. He finished 19th in 2011 with a score of six under and 15th in 2007 with a score of nine under. Woods even has two top-five finishes at Muirfield Village Golf Club. He finished third in 2004 and third in 2005. He is guaranteed to have a couple solid rounds and be in contention on Sunday no matter what.
With all this success at Memorial, Woods should without a doubt be the number one fantasy golfer off the board. He is the safest pick in the field and is the heavy favorite to once again win it all.
Take a shot on Tiger that weekend and spend the rest of the time keeping track of Lindsey Vonn’s Twitter page.
