In Week 7, the second baseman truly broke out for fantasy owners. On Friday, Kipnis hit a game-winning three-run home run in the bottom of the 10th inning against the Seattle Mariners. It would have been enough to make fantasy owners happy. However, the next day, Kippy went 2-4 with a RBI, a run, a stolen base, and the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Kipnis finished the week 10-24 and was the most popular man in Cleveland for a couple days. During the stretch he had three doubles, three home runs, eight RBIs, seven runs, and two stolen bases. It was a performance that would make even Robinson Cano blush.
In 2012 Kipnis only hit 14 home runs, but he has already put seven balls into the stands this season. He has also added eight stolen bases on the year and is well on his way to beating his career-high (31) in steals as well.
JK is striking out 23.5% this year, which is up from his 16.2% in 2012, but he is still putting up reliable fantasy numbers despite the extra hacks. As long as Kipnis is putting the ball in play, that is all fantasy owners care about.
Kipnis will remain a must-start week after week, and if anything, this past scoring period just proved it.
