Longoria is currently riding a gaudy 13-game hitting streak. In that stretch, he has amassed 20 hits, 11 runs, three home runs, and 12 RBIs. He has been impossible to get out over this span and raised his average an amazing 22 points in the process.
Longoria’s .327/.392/.576 line is one of the best in the entire American League and has fantasy owners salivating on a weekly basis while plugging him into their lineup. He has never hit above .294, and his career average in the majors is .279, so his explosion this season has been a godsend.
The third baseman is striking out 19.9 % of the time this season though. He has been a little more aggressive at the plate lately, evident by his power numbers, but it will not come without consequence. He may hit more long balls this season, but fantasy owners can expect to see that K rate go up as well.
Longoria is obviously an elite third baseman, but he is playing better than anyone this off-season could have expected. Longoria is red hot right now, and baring his yearly trip to the DL, he is on pace to have a career fantasy season in 2013.
