With the U.S. Open only a week away, many of the big names in the sport will be at home practicing this week. However, there will still be enough options heading to the 2013 FedEx St. Jude Classic to keep fantasy golf fans interested.
Dustin Johnson is the defending champion of the Southwind and the TMZ superstar will be taking a break from his rough lifestyle to play golf this weekend. DJ will still be a popular fantasy pick this week.
Phil Mickelson and Brandt Snedeker will also be heading down to Memphis this week. Neither golfer is playing their best golf right now, but they will still be worthy picks in the smaller field.
To help you draft this week, here are the top-20 fantasy golfers for the FedEx St. Jude Classic.
20. John Daly
John Daly – Daly finished 19th in 2012 at Southwind and will be a great sleeper pick with the limited field in this year's St. Jude Classic.
19. Tim Clark
Tim Clark – Clark has made the cut at Southwind in four straight attempts. He has also cracked the top-24 in three of his last four tourneys this season.
18. Ken Duke
Ken Duke – Southwind is the perfect course for power hitters and Duke is fourth on the tour in Driving Accuracy (70.8%). Expect the 44-year-old to spend plenty of time on the fairway this weekend.
17. D.A. Points
D.A. Points – Despite his recent struggles, Points still has four top-16 finishes in his last eight tournaments.
16. Billy Horschel
Billy Horschel – Horschel has been a bit of a mess lately after finishing inside the top-10 in four straight tournaments. He is still worth a mid-level pick, but he is too risky to be a top starter.
15. Josh Teater
Josh Teater – Teater missed the cut at Southwind in 2012, but he finished 15th here in 2010. He will be a great sleeper pick this weekend in Memphis.
14. Scott Stallings
Scott Stallings – Stallings finished fourth at the Memorial and fourth at the Crowne Plaza Invitational. He is playing the best golf of his life and could surprise people again this week.
13. Padraig Harrington
Padraig Harrington – Harrington has had some very strong rounds at TPC Southwind over the years. He has shot a 65, 70, and 68 in the opening round in Memphis in the last three years.
12. Freddie Jacobson
Freddie Jacobson – Jacobson has five top-20 finishes at Southwind throughout his career and he has only missed the cut here once. Look for him to once again finish among the top-25 golfers this Sunday.
11. Russell Henley
Russell Henley – Henley finished sixth at Memorial and sixth at the RBC Heritage. He quietly has three top-10 finishes on the year and the 24-year-old will be worth a late pick heading to Memphis.
10. Phil Mickelson
Phil Mickelson – Mickelson has not played at Southwind since finishing 59th in 2009. This is the third time he has seen this course, though, so expect him to look much better after his most recent hiatus.
9. Boo Weekley
Boo Weekley – Weekley is coming off an amazing win at the Crowne Plaza Invitational in which he shot 14 strokes under par. He finished fourth on this course back in 2008, so expect another strong showing from the 35-year-old this week.
8. Robert Karlsson
Robert Karlsson – Karlsson lost a playoff at Southwind in 2010 and in 2011. His past success here will make him a very popular fantasy pick this week.
7. Jeff Overton
Jeff Overton – Overton has cracked the top-15 in his last two appearances in Tennessee.
6. Dustin Johnson
Dustin Johnson – Johnson won at TPC Southwind last year, but he has struggled lately with a nagging back injury. He will be still be a pretty safe pick, though, so don’t let him fall to far.
5. Charles Howell III
Charles Howell III – Chucky Three Sticks placed third here back in 2011. He is one of the most experienced golfers attending Southwind, so don't discount the veteran too much this week.
4. John Merrick
John Merrick – Merrick placed second last year at the St. Jude Classic and actually had a share of the lead for 54 holes.
3. Ryan Palmer
Ryan Palmer – Palmer has two top-five finishes in his five appearances at Southwind.
2. Brian Gay
Brian Gay – Gay won the SJC back in 2009 and finished 15th in 2010.
1. Brandt Snedeker
Brandt Snedeker – Snedeker is a Nashville native, so Southwind is one of his home courses. He has finished inside the top-eight in two of his last four tournaments and should be the number one fantasy option this weekend in Tennessee.
