In all the fantasy baseball magazines this off-season the only Miami Marlin that was a fixture among their offensive rankings was OF Giancarlo Stanton. However, the superstar outfielder has been on the disabled list for over a month and has been a major disappointment this fantasy season.
Stanton has been on the disabled list since April 29th with a nagging hamstring injury. He injured it running out a ground ball at first base, and even though it was a freak injury, it has left many fantasy owners scrambling to find a serviceable outfielder.
However, after a long month of rehab, Stanton is almost ready to return to the diamond. The slugger has been going through base-running drills for a week and has already joined Class A Jupiter for some rehab appearances. He is slowly getting healthy and it seems like the youngster will rejoin the team by the middle of the month.
Through 20 games this year, Stanton had just three home runs with nine RBIs. However, Miami wasn’t exactly playing well before he went on the DL, so he wasn’t getting many RBI opportunities or even many decent pitches to hit. Miami has been hitting the ball a little better, so Stanton will be looking for a fresh start when he returns.
Stanton was also on the DL for an extended period of time last year, but the outfielder still managed to finish with 37 home runs in just 123 games. He was crushing a homer every 12.1 at-bats and proved that he is one of the most dangerous power hitters in the sport. The slugger can easily hit 15 homers in a month, so don’t discount him just because of a minor injury. He has some serious numbers left in his bat.
Stanton will be crushing homers sooner rather than later, so now is the ideal time to make a move for the 23-year-old thumper. He is an elite home run hitter and it is only a matter of time until he is hitting 460-foot home runs again.
