After a sensational 2013 World Baseball Classic and a strong start to the fantasy baseball season, many owners thought Toronto Blue Jays SS Jose Reyes was in store for an amazing season.

However, Reyes severely sprained his ankle sliding into second just 10 games into the season and has been sitting on the disabled list ever since. Thousands of fantasy owners have patiently waited for the shortstop to return to action. He was an extremely high draft pick this past spring, but has been an utter disappointment up until this point.

Reyes hasn’t played since April 12th, but after months of resting the speedster is finally ready to start a rehab assignment. Reyes has been working tirelessly in the team’s spring training complex down in Dunedin, Florida. He played in a simulation game this Friday and could potentially be starting some rehab games as soon as this Monday.

The shortstop has a chance to step into one of the hottest lineups in the American League. Toronto has officially come out of their slump and sluggers Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion have really turned it up lately. Reyes would be leading off atop a lineup riddled with power hitters, which would only lead to more chances to get knocked home.

Reyes will instantly become a top-five shortstop upon his return and will help fantasy owners forget about the grueling couple months that he was on the sideline. If you still own Reyes in your fantasy league, now is the time to get excited.
