2013 Fantasy Baseball: Add RP Brad Ziegler Off Waivers

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Over the last several weeks the closer position has been somewhat solidified throughout fantasy baseball. There have finally been a steady cast of closers around the league and it has helped numerous fantasy owners sleep well at night.

The one exception, however, has been the Arizona Diamondbacks. The team has tried J.J. Putz, Heath Bell, and even David Hernandez as their everyday closer, but the terrific threesome has each blown five games this season.

The team’s most recent solution to their closing problems is RP Brad Ziegler. The 33-year-old has been a rock lately for the D’Backs and could end up becoming a rather reliable fantasy closer down the stretch.

In just over 45 innings of work this season, Ziegler has a very impressive 1.06 WHIP and 2.38 ERA. Ziegler has amassed four saves and one hold in his last six appearances alone. He has only allowed four hits over that stretch and the newly anointed closer has yet to walk a batter.

Arizona is currently first in the National League West, so it is not as if Ziegler is closing out games for the Houston Astros all of a sudden. He steps into the perfect fantasy role and will be an amazing fantasy pickup for the final stretch. He may not have a strong grasp on the job, but he is a starting fantasy closer to utilize nonetheless.
