2013 Fantasy Baseball: Add OF Dayan Viciedo Off Waivers

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

One of the most hated players in fantasy baseball this season has been Chicago White Sox OF Dayan Viciedo.

People have been cursing Viciedo’s name all season long due to his horribly inconsistent play. He was a popular sleeper pick earlier this season, but so far he has been nothing but disappointment. He has been in the lineup less and less in recent months and was even dropped in a majority of leagues.

However, the slugger has really turned things up this month. Viciedo is coming off his best performance of the season on Wednesday night. The thumper went 3-4 with two singles and huge grand slam against the Kansas City Royals.

The granny was his 11th home run, but it was also his second long ball in his last five starts. Over that time, he has also racked up nine RBIs and scored two runs. It took the outfielder 27 games to match that RBI total previously, so his sudden offensive explosion has been a welcomed sight for fantasy fans.

Viciedo has worked tirelessly on his swing this summer and he has finally made some progress with it. He looks much more comfortable at the plate and is finally learning how to sit back on the major league fastballs. With his power, though, he could become a superstar if he ever gets things completely figured out.

Viciedo may not be a reliable starter in eight-man leagues, but the slugger can certainly have an impact in deeper leagues. If Viciedo is on the wire in your league, take a chance on the heavy-hitter.
