2013 Fantasy Baseball: RP Addison Reed Stays Hot This August

John Rieger-USA TODAY Sports

One closer that continues to dominate the world of fantasy baseball is Chicago White Sox RP Addison Reed.

The Sox may be 51-74 on the year, but Reed keeps chugging along. He has a 3.19 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and is ranked fifth in the American League with 33 saves. The righty has quickly matured into a reliable fantasy option in the pen, but he continues to keep flying under the radar.

The closer has been lights out over the entire month of August. In 12.1 innings this month, the 24-year-old has a sizzling 0.73 ERA. He has also racked up nine saves this month on top of a victory over the Detroit Tigers. Even more impressive is the fact that Reed has converted a save for the Chi-Sox in five straight games.

Reed struggled with his command earlier in the year, but he seems to be in the zone right now for fantasy fans. He is striking out 8.95 K’s per nine innings of work and is getting it done rather efficiently. The 24-year-old is pitching perfectly as we approach the fantasy playoffs.

Reed could be an elite closing option if he was on a better team, but as it is he is still a great first closer in fantasy terms. He should be able to rack up a couple saves per week down the stretch with at least one K per inning.
