Seattle Seahawks 2013 Fantasy Football Defense Preview

If it wasn’t for the Chicago Bears forcing a ridiculous 44 turnovers and scoring 10 touchdowns on defense and special teams, the Seattle Seahawks would have been the best defense in Fantasy Football last year.

While the Seahawks weren’t as flashy as some teams when it came to forcing turnovers or scoring touchdowns, they simply just did not give anything up. They gave up 28 fewer points than any other team in the NFL. On talent alone, they have been pre-ranked the No. 1 Fantasy defense in 2013.

Seattle’s success on defense can be credited to their elite talent up front and in the secondary. Even with the suspension of Bruce Irvin and Chris Clemons recovering from a torn ACL, the Seahawks won’t miss a beat in the sack department with the addition of Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett. As for the backend, the Seahawks have arguably the best secondary in the league. They have the two biggest and most physical corners in Richard Sherman and Brandon Browner. Combine that with the play of Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor from the safety position and the Seahawks should be even better on the defensive side of the ball in 2013.

One place they might take a step back is in the return game. After losing Leon Washington, they thought they were going to replace him with Percy Harvin. But injury there leaves question marks in the return game.

Regardless, the Seahawks will be the first or second defense to come off the board in your Fantasy draft this year; it’s just a matter of when you want to reach for them. Realistically, they could very well get you double digit points every week, which could warrant as early as a ninth-round pick in the draft.

As scary as it sounds, the Seahawks could be even better in 2013. This could pay serious dividends for your Fantasy squad.
