Attention: Would the owners of Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan in their respective fantasy leagues please stand up?
As the Falcons prepare to take on their division rival New Orleans Saints for their Week 1 opener, fantasy football owners have to be licking their chops if their starting quarterback happens to be Ryan. The Falcons gunslinger could send his owners to a Week 1 victory, virtually, by himself.
Alright, that was a stretch.
But, for what it’s worth, the Saints’ pass defense was, and still is, not good last year. New Orleans ranked 31st in passing yards allowed per game, and only picked off 15 passes all year in 2012. Both of these things are good news for Ryan and the Falcons.
It gets worse.
The Saints led the NFL in yards-per-attempt allowed a year ago, ending on a whopping 8.1 yards. With Ryan having more to prove than ever before, expect him and his arsenal of weapons to start fast and explode for 30-plus points to open the season.
Boasting options like Roddy White, Julio Jones, Tony Gonzalez and Steven Jackson, this will be, by far, the best offensive group Ryan has been around since entering the league. As everybody knows by now, the Falcons’ season has ‘Super Bowl or bust’ written all over it, and Ryan knows this.
Going up against such a mediocre, and that’s being nice, pass defense in Week 1 should give both Ryan and his fantasy owners some big-time confidence as the 2013 season gets underway. If you have Ryan starting this week, get ready for some fun.
