Would you like to hear a very obvious statement? Okay, here’s one. Lamar Miller is the most talented running back on the Miami Dolphins roster. Anyone who follows the game of football should know this to be true. His speed, athleticism and versatility make him the most logical choice to be the Dolphins featured back. I see it, you see it. So I just have one question.
What the heck is head coach Joe Philbin seeing?
Even though Miller was recently named the starting running back for Week 1, the Miami Herald continues to report that Miller will split carries with backup runner Daniel Thomas. Here is what Thomas had to say about the situation:
“It’s cool,” Thomas said. “We’re all going to get pretty much the same amount of reps. It’s not a problem.”
Umm, excuse me?
I mean, I know coach Philbin stated that the running back competition was a very close one, but anyone could see who the clear-cut better back is in South Beach. A guy with 4.40 speed, decent size and ridiculous lateral quickness, there is no reason why Miller shouldn’t get the majority of the carries over a plodder like Thomas. That home run play ability is very evident in Miller, but not at al with Thomas. During the offseason, Miller worked out with fellow Miami product Frank Gore. Pretty good running back to receiving advice from, no? The only time I ever see Thomas cutting into Miller’s workload is during goal-line situations. I don’t buy this one bit, and neither should Miller’s fantasy owners.
