Hot Fantasy Football Free Agent Pickup: Julius Thomas

Julius Thomas

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

The fantasy football season started with a bang on Thursday night. For those of you who do not own any Denver Broncos players or for anyone who needs a tight end, you may be in luck.

Julius Thomas had his coming out party last night against the Baltimore Ravens. Thomas had five catches on seven targets for 110 yards and two touchdowns. We all know that Manning loves to give the ball to his tight ends, but I do not think anyone saw this coming last night.

Thomas was a former basketball player at Portland State and looks like he came right from the same mold as a Jimmy Graham. This could be a match made in heaven for the Broncos and many fantasy owners looking to snatch up a high-tier tight end if they did not get to draft a Graham, Jason Witten, or Rob Gronkowski.

If you are worried about all of the other pass catchers that Manning has and that they may take targets away from Thomas, don’t. If you know anything about Manning, it’s that he loves to throw the ball to everyone, which is evident from his seven touchdown passes Thursday night.

Julius Thomas is not owned in many fantasy leagues, so go and grab him off the waiver wire as quickly as you can. He will not stay on there long; in fact, he may have already been picked up while you were reading this article.
