Fantasy Update: Pick Up Julian Edelman

Edelman

Timothy T. Ludwig-USA TODAY Sports

Wes who? After a great debut with the Denver Broncos on Thursday night, the New England Patriots had to figure out how to replace lost wide receiver Wes Welker. After just one game, I think Tom Brady has it all figured out. New acquisition Danny Amendola had a great game ,with 10 receptions with 104 yards (ESPN.com). However, the man that stole the show was Julian Edelman.

Edelman is not an unfamiliar named to Patriots fans, and he has shown before what he can do when he is healthy. He is healthy coming into this season, and it showed once again! Edelman had seven receptions for 79 yards and two touchdowns in the win against the Buffalo Bills. He looks like the man that will benefit greatly by the loss of Aaron Hernandez and, for the time being, Rob Gronkowski. Even when Gronkowski comes back, however, Edelman will still see many targets come his way. Brady lost many receivers during this offseason and Edelman is one that is a friendly face to the quarterback.

If you are looking for a guy to have on your bench and to start as a flex or second receiver option, go and grab Edelman, as he is very sure-handed and looks to have a good rapport with Brady. Edelman will not be a Calvin Johnson, but look for him to put up some numbers this season that will look like Welker-type numbers. Pick him up this week if you can. You won’t be sorry!
