Week 1 Fantasy Football: Start Dallas Cowboys Defense

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

One defensive unit that has looked absolutely amazing this preseason has been the defense of the Dallas Cowboys. Despite a couple minor injuries to CB Morris Claiborne and DE Anthony Spencer, the unit has been very stout against the run and their secondary has also been above average.  Overall, I think they are in store for a huge season by fantasy football standards.

This week Dallas will faceoff against the New York Giants at home and it promises to be a very big home opener. New York has bested the Boys in four straight games at home and Dallas is extra hungry to end that streak this Sunday.

New York’s offense has suffered numerous injuries of their own. RB Andre Brown broke his leg and may be done for the season. While WR Victor Cruz and WR Hakeem Nicks enter the game with injury concerns of their own. They won’t be at their best for the opening game of the season and it will give Dallas a little extra confidence in the secondary.

Also QB Eli Manning didn’t play too well against Dallas last season. The two-time Super Bowl wining quarterback only averaged 202.5 passing yards in his two games against his divisional rival and he managed to throw just one touchdown.

Dallas may allow a couple touchdowns, but I fully expect their defense to get to Manning a couple times and to get their hands on at least one interception. If you own the Boys defense, make sure to plug them into your defensive spot in Week 1.
