Week 1 Fantasy Football: Take A Chance On TE Zach Sudfeld

Greg M. Cooper-USA TODAY Sports

If there ever was a time for fantasy football owners to take a shot on New England Patriots TE Zach Sudfeld, this is the week.

The Patriots kickoff the season against the Buffalo Bills and superstar tight end, Rob Gronkowski, will not be playing in the season opener. The loss of Gronk for the contest will instantly open the door for Sudfeld to get plenty of the targets over the middle of the field and the tight end seems primed to have a big game.

Additionally, the departure of LB Nick Barnett leaves the team without a veteran linebacker to cover the middle of the field. The team drafted LB Kiko Alonso in the second round (46 overall) and the rookie from Oregon has looked very strong this summer, but he will still have a little bit of a learning curve early in the season. Sudfeld is athletic enough to be able to get behind Alonso at least once in the game and you can expect Brady to be looking his way often inside the red zone.

Sudfeld may not be a worthy starter week after week, but he is at least worth starting in Week 1. New England desperately needs someone to step up this week in the passing game, and my money is on Sudfeld.

Fantasy Projection: 4 catches, 67 yards, 1 TD
