Fantasy Football Week 2 Perfect QB Start: Denver Broncos’ Peyton Manning

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

As the Denver Broncos get set to square off in a battle of the brothers next Sunday, quarterback Peyton Manning has to try and follow up one of the best performances of his career. On the NFL’s opening night, Manning tossed a record-tying seven touchdowns against the defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens.

This week, there will sure to be tons of buildup around Manning and what he has the potential to do against his brother and the New York Giants.

If the Giants’ week one disaster is any sign of things to come, Manning will have plenty of opportunities on the field. David Wilson found himself in the dog house again, fumbling twice, and Eli Manning threw three interceptions as the Dallas Cowboys made fools of the Giants. The final score was misleading after a late Giants touchdown, but the Cowboys dismantled the Giants on Sunday.

Let’s use some simple logic — that rarely works, but hey it’s worth a shot.

If Manning destroyed the Ravens’ defense in such a way that made every Ravens fan around the world cry themselves to sleep, what will he do to a team that coughed up the ball six times in their season opener? Granted, the final stat line posted by Tony Romo wasn’t extraordinary, but New York put him in position to succeed all night long.

Manning now has ample firepower after the addition of Wes Welker, and now gets to choose between he, DeMaryius Thomas and Eric Decker in the passing game. But wait, there’s more. Breakout tight end Julius Thomas showed a burst of athletic ability and a nose for the end zone in week one, giving Manning yet another big-time weapon offensively.

If you had the option to start one quarterback this week, I would say it has to be Manning. How can you argue with seven touchdowns in the opening weekend? Manning is clearly out to obliterate any criticism based off of last season’s early playoff exit. I’m not one to stand in his way. Get ready to watch Manning roast the Giants.
